Assist a Soul
Assist a Soul is the outreach ministry connected to our celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and has become a very important part of the day. We are so grateful to have an opportunity to minister in service to our community through this outreach project, which we believe exemplifies the spirit of Rev. Dr. King. Every year, individuals bring winter cover up items such as; scarves, sweaters, earmuffs and socks, to cover the homeless in our community and keep them warm during the winter season. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ in the world. “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” (Rev. Martin L. King, Jr.)

Prayer Tree
At the MLK event, we display our Commission’s Prayer Tree. Our prayer tree stands as a memorial to the work yet to be done. It is our prayer that all of God’s children can come together in unity to live out the dream of Dr. King and strive for a world where there is justice, peace, love, and where diversity is celebrated. Personal prayers are placed on our tree for unity among all of us as we do this work. You may also request to have our prayer tree at your church for a period of time.

Jennifer Gilcreast grew up in western PA near Pittsburgh. She graduated from Asbury University (piano performance) and Notre Dame (MM), playing the organ where she attended. She taught music in Jessamine and Bullitt counties, and teaches choir and music at Highlands Latin School. She has 4 children age 18-24. Hobbies include cookings, reading, and being in nature.
