Everyone is Designed to Serve
It is said of King David in the book of Acts that he “served the purpose of God in his own generation” (Acts 13:36). David was chosen as a young man. He was groomed almost from childhood for leadership. God had ordained him for that calling. Despite his flaws, God would make David into a great king for his glory. It is also said of David that he was a man after God’s own heart. Will that be said of you? That you were men and women after God’s own heart and that you fulfilled the purposes of God in your generation?
The challenge before you is to face the opportunities and obstacles that God has for you in your time. We don’t know if these are the best of times or the worst of times. All we know is that they are our times. And God is raising up a generation of people for himself.
We hope you can find a way to serve the greater world, whether this is a more localized challenge or you are going abroad. If you are in need of more information, please contact us. We will be happy to assist.

Mission Trips
Mission trips are a great personal journey as well as an important necessity to the communities of other countries where people are in great need. Mission trips are volunteer trips taken to help people in other countries, usually developing countries, in a city that is impoverished. The purpose of a mission trip is not only to greatly help those who are not as fortunate as ourselves, but also to see with our own eyes how hard it is for people who don’t have the materials we take for granted.
Middletown United Methodist Church has a history of mission trips to Central and South America, helping many people along the way. Our last mission trip was organized by our Youth Ministry, where they journeyed down to Belize. Keep your eyes open for future announcements about mission trips we plan to embark on.
Volunteers in Mission
United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) is the short-term mission arm of the United Methodist Church. Our volunteers are lay and clergy, young and old, with differing abilities, vocations, and stations in life.
We come together through the United Methodist Church in order that all may offer their skills and talents for Christian service at home and abroad. Our emphasis is upon matching persons with opportunities so that everyone may participate in mission. We believe that no matter who you are, no matter the level of your resources, no matter how big or small your church, God is calling you to mission.
Volunteers in Mission is here as a resource for you as you seek to fulfill God’s call to serve in short-term mission journeys. There are many opportunities to serve and there are a variety of needs, both in the USA and internationally. If you would like more information about a service opportunity with UMVIM, please contact us. We will be happy to assist.
